Although the definition of Shalwar Kameez seems very simple but it has countless styles and trust me they change like any international fashion. They also take fashion pointers from Paris, New York and Milan. If we see, only in last few decades Shalwar Kameez has changed in hundred shapes. The Shalwar (pants) can go very loose/baggy with narrow opening or a wide bell bottom or Q-lots. Tops can range from ankle length like maxi or as short as a t-shirt, fitted or loose with numerous designs in neckline and sleeves and more. There is one thing though it will still be called a Shalwar Kameez. These garments are very forgiving and versatile and can be fused into any other eastern or western styles very easily and accommodate any new trends. Pakistani designers are truly very talented and their constant work with this traditional garment has brought so much trend and edge to it.

Shalwar is a Persian word which means pants. Kameez is a originated from Spanish word "camisa".

Punjabi suit is another name of Shalwar/salwar and qameez/kameez. It is traditionally a 3 piece garment. It consists of a long top, a loose pants and a scarf known as dupatta.

Today's Shalwar Kameez is so unpredictable. You don't know what the next designer will bring in it. They keep beautifying them over and over.
